This is a touching and inspirational letter from a well-known Hong Kong radio host Liang Jizhang to his son. It contains a father’s perception of life and infinite love for his family:

Life is uncertain — nobody knows how long they will live, and there are certain things to do and speak out about before it is too late. I am your father; if I do not tell you, nobody else will. This letter records my experience of painful failures that may be of benefit to you through life.

In your life, nobody is obliged to treat you well except for your mother and me. For those who are good to you, you must cherish them and be grateful.

Nobody is indispensable, and it is not necessary for you to possess everything. You have to see through this point. In the future, if you lose the world’s most precious material thing, you must understand that it is not important.

Life is short; today you may waste your life, but tomorrow you will realize that that time is lost forever. So, the sooner you cherish life, the more you will enjoy it. Instead of striving for longevity, it’s better to enjoy life early.

Love is just a feeling that will change over time and follow your mood. If your most loved one leaves you, please wait patiently. Let time slowly erase the pain, let the mind slowly settle down, and your bitterness will slowly fade away. Do not imagine the ideal beauty of love, and do not exaggerate the sadness of losing your love.

Although many successful people have limited education, it does not mean that you can afford not to study hard. The knowledge that you gain is a tool. People can start from scratch, but they cannot be without basic knowledge — remember that.

We are destined to be together in this life; no matter how long I’m with you, you must cherish the time we share together because we will not meet again in the next life. (Image: Serrano 1004 via Pixabay/CC0 1.0)

I will not ask you to support me for the rest of my life, and neither will I support you for the rest of your life. When you grow up to be independent, my responsibility for you will be over. In the future, your decisions are your own responsibility.

You can ask yourself to be trustworthy, but you cannot demand that others do the same; you can ask yourself to be good, but you cannot expect others to be good to you. The way you treat people does not mean people should treat you the same.

I bought a lottery ticket for 26 years, but I’m not rich. If a person wants to prosper, they must work hard; there is no free lunch in this world.

We are destined to be together in this life; no matter how long I’m with you, you must cherish the time we share together because we will not meet again in the next life.
