Millennials are now estimated to be one of the biggest demographics of the United States workforce. A millennial usually looks at five factors when considering whether or not to accept a job — salary, work-life balance, the stress level of the job, upward mobility, and future job prospects.

Here are some of the best jobs suitable for Millennials

1. Software developer

A software developer is one job that checks almost all the boxes of Millennials. It promises an excellent future. A robust startup scene ensures tremendous upward mobility, the work-life balance is pretty good, and the salary is also one of the best in the market. The average median salary of a software developer is estimated to be more than US$100,000, and the market demand for good developers is expected to jump by over 30 percent by 2026. No wonder then that the position as a software developer was picked as the number one best job for 2018 by US News & World Report.

2. Insurance sales

If Millennials are specifically looking for a job that gives them the maximum flexibility at work, being an insurance sales agent is the best option for them. Many agents set up their own schedules and may even choose just to work for a couple of days a week. Another advantage is that the job does not require a college degree. As such, you can avoid getting stuck with a big student debt. The median annual salary is estimated to be around US$48,000. But if you have the communication skills to influence the people you meet, you can easily earn much more in this field.

3. Dental hygienist

A dental hygienist is responsible for attending to a client when they come to the dentist’s office. The hygienist is the person who usually takes the X-rays of the mouth and screens for conditions like oral cancer and cavities. In addition, they are also tasked with educating the visitors about the proper methods of oral care. The reason why the job is highly suitable for Millennials is because of two things — good salary and work flexibility. According to estimates, the median annual salary of a dental hygienist comes to around US$72,000, which should easily satisfy most Millennials. In addition, many hygienists work part-time, thereby ensuring that the job is very flexible when it comes to work schedules.

4. Video Editor

Considering that Millennials have grown up with a big dose of video entertainment in their lives thanks to the numerous TV shows, movies, and web series available, becoming a video editor could fulfill their desire to engage in some creative task while being paid very well at the same time. The job involves assembling all the footage shot by the director and turning it into a coherent video. It is estimated that almost 13 percent of all video editors are 24 years of age or younger. The job typically requires a bachelor’s degree. The average wage of a video editor is estimated to be just above US$80,000 per year. And this can easily move into six figures once you get enough experience and become proficient at your task.

5. Massage therapist

A massage therapist makes around US$38,000 per year on average, which is the lowest annual salary in this list. But on the plus side, becoming a massage therapist does not require any expensive college education. Instead, you only need a license. In addition, you can see clients at your residence and your own schedule rather than working 9 to 5 at a regular office.
