Face mapping is a Chinese technique believed to be helpful in determining the health of a person by assessing the condition of their face. When the body is afflicted with illness, certain sections of the skin start showing pimples. The location of these pimples can indicate the corresponding organs that need to be treated.

However, jumping to a conclusion that any acne breakout is related to some serious ailment is erroneous. “First of all, we need to make sure that any dark spots or acne aren’t caused by poor hygiene or a skin infection… If the symptoms still occur after seven days of daily cleaning or treatment, then we can consider face mapping,” Chapman Lee, founder of a skincare line, said to Refinery29.

Face mapping and acne

If an acne breakout happens on the chin or jawline region, it might indicate a problem with hormones, most likely a high production of testosterone. For women, breakouts in the region can occur during their menstrual cycle. The increased sebum production can result in more blackheads and whiteheads. Try to get adequate sleep and minimize stress as much as possible to heal blemishes in the region. Fill up on fresh fruits and vegetables.

Acne on the forehead or along the hairline is usually the result of excessive use of oil in the region. When oil is applied to the hair, it can spill over to the forehead and end up clogging pores. Avoid using oil and products that contain oil in your daily hair care routine. If you are not using oil, acne breakouts might be the result of the person being under stress. People suffering from poor diet and irritable bowel syndrome also experience breakouts in this area.

When people sleep, they will have their cheeks pressed against the pillowcase. As a result, bacteria can easily make their way into the pores, triggering inflammation and infection. The best way to avoid this is by using a clean pillowcase every week. If there are still breakouts, it might indicate an imbalance in the small intestine. Avoid drinking cold drinks. Only consume drinks at room temperature. The cheeks may also have acne if your stomach is affected by inflammation.

Acne on the nose or upper lip is typically caused by sweat and contact. Since the nose is touched frequently during the day, this can transfer dirt or bacteria to the region, triggering acne. If you don’t touch your nose often, a breakout might suggest an imbalance in the stomach, spleen, or kidneys. People who smoke must stop the habit and focus on eating food with high fiber content.

Acne’s psychological effects

Acne results in mental stress for many individuals. This is especially true of teenagers going through a period when they’re generally obsessed with looks. “Bullying can occur. Other kids may hurl names like ‘crater face’ at their classmates with widespread acne. This bullying can cause self-esteem to plummet. It can cause teens to feel so upset that they want to be alone. They may make few friends,” according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

There are also people who suffer from a condition called “dysmorphophobic acne.” They may have few blemishes on their faces, but they will still consider it to be severe acne, suffering the same psychological damage. In a few cases, such people display signs of mental disorder and might require psychiatric help.
