We all know that more than 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by ocean and less than 30 percent is land. Remarkably, the vast ocean, which occupies the largest area of the planet, is almost completely unknown to us. In fact, according to experts, it is likely that we know less than 5 percent of what there is to know about the ocean, including the possible existence of real mermaids. And because of this, many mysteries in the depths of the ocean remain unexplained until today. In 1997, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) underwater listening system in the South Pacific suddenly recorded a strange sound.
The recording
At first, NOAA’s oceanographers thought it was some kind of whale sound, and since they had never heard such a whale sound before, many oceanographers at the time were quite excited, thinking that they had found a new species of whale. However, soon they realized that many audio monitors under the Pacific Ocean recorded the sound. This shows that no matter what kind of creature is making this sound, it must be very large in size.
Soon after the recording of these unknown sounds, there was news around the world of large numbers of whales being stranded. One of the biggest concerns was the New Zealand incident of 2017, when a total of more than 600 whales were stranded.
Since there has never been a whale stranding of this magnitude in the past, many experts were studying what happened to these whales. Some scholars believe it is likely that the leading whale got lost and ended up stranded. But some scholars questioned whether it could be the military doing some undersea experiment that accidentally interfered with the whale’s navigation system, causing the animals to lose their sense of direction before they ran aground.
Recently it was discovered in the declassified Soviet archives that these incidents are likely to have been related to an unknown civilization. Since this civilization is very low-profile and good at hiding itself, humans are not aware of their existence, especially since they don’t live on land at all. The mass whale stranding incident was most likely caused by someone looking for a civilization under the sea. So what exactly was this civilization like? Most importantly, who are “they”? Today, we will talk about the civilization under the sea.
Legends
Although human technology was not advanced thousands of years ago, strangely enough, many legends featuring similar stories were passed down between different civilizations who lived far away from each other. For example, many religions say that the world began in chaos and describe the Great Flood. There is also a unique legend throughout the world about creatures known as mermaids. In 1931, French anthropologists Marcel Griaule and Germaine Dieterlen discovered a group of relatively primitive “Dogon” people living in West Africa near the Niger Bend.
At first, Griaule was fascinated by the Dogon culture because they were not only well versed in biological anatomy, but even had their own astronomical calendar. But what surprised Griaule even more was that more than 3,000 years ago, they already knew about the existence of Sirius B. Sirius B is a white dwarf star 8.6 light-years away from Earth. Because Sirius B is located next to “Sirius A,” which is several times brighter and bigger, Sirius B is not visible to the naked eye by people on Earth.
In fact, it was not until 1862 that humans saw Sirius B faintly with a telescope for the first time, but due to the limitations of technology at that time, it wasn’t until after 1928 that humans fully understood Sirius B. However, the Dogon people knew about it 3,000 years ago! The only difference was that instead of calling it Sirius B, the Dogons called it Po Tolo. The Dogon priest told Griaule that although they could not see Sirius B, they knew it would emit a white glow and circle Sirius A in an elliptical orbit once every 50 years. And this is exactly the same 50 years that NASA later calculated. This is quite amazing.
If Sirius B is not visible to the naked eye, how did the Dogon calculate this orbit cycle? The priest told Griaule that the Dogon knew all this because a long time ago, a group of half-human, half-fish (also known as the fish people) came down from the sky, and they were from Sirius B.
People of Sirius
According to the priest, a long time ago, the Dogon people were just a small tribe in the land of West Africa. Suddenly, one day, a group of “demigods” came down from the sky riding magical vehicles amidst a bunch of flames and thunder. Speaking of which, the priest raised his hand and pointed to a vehicle looking like a space shuttle or some sort of dragon on the wall painting. Once the shuttle landed, a tall creature stepped out. The Dogons called them Nommo, which means water spirit, a bit like an amphibious creature. During the day, they would come to the shore to make contact with the Dogon, and in the evening they returned to live underwater.
Nommo told the Dogon that they came from the distant planet “Portoro,” that is, Sirius B. They had come to Earth a long time ago, and the reason why they suddenly appeared now was that they wanted to help the Earthlings. So since that day, Nommo not only taught the Dogon people agriculture, but even astronomical calendars. Thus, the Dogon people knew that the Earth revolved around the Sun long before Nicolaus Copernicus, the Renaissance mathematician, proposed the model that the Sun is at the center of the universe instead of Earth.
They also told the Dogon people that Jupiter has four major moons and many facts about the universe. They also said that the universe is a silent place where only one God exists. His name is Amma, and one day, Amma used divine power to create 14 worlds that were stacked on top of each other. Each world is a universe with countless stars, which means that, according to the Dogon, their view of the universe is somewhat similar to what we often call “parallel universes.” After the creation of the worlds, Amma created the first pair of living species, the “Nommo.”
They are genderless, hermaphroditic beings. After Nommo, Amma created pairs of twins out of clay, namely: “people with horns,” “people with tails,” “people with wings,” and “people who crawl,” and these five forms of life, including Nommo, are equally scattered throughout the universe. Many reports of alien sightings often describe aliens with the above features. It turns out that aliens are probably also created by God. It is worthwhile to note that the half-human half-fish creature also appears in Sumerian folklore.
According to the Dogon, they believe that back then, after imparting human knowledge, Nommo did not leave the Earth, but has lived deep in its oceans all this time. The old priest even told Griaule that they believed the Nommo were always watching humans and that if we did something wrong, they would reappear to give humans guidance. Bizarrely, just 13 years ago, a classified Soviet file actually described that they had once run into a higher civilization under the sea.
Classified Soviet files
On July 21, 2009, a Russian newspaper published a shocking news story. Vladimir Chernavin, a retired Soviet admiral, told the media that he had numerous encounters with UFOs during his 48 years of naval service and that more than 50 percent of these UFOs were related to the ocean. So Chernavin mostly calls them USOs, meaning unidentified submerged objects.
According to the admiral’s description, the USO would often fly over the water and then suddenly cut into the ocean at an incredible “angle” the next second. At that time, Chernavin explained that he could publish the information now because some of the answers had been declassified. Among his numerous strange experiences, the most memorable was the “chase under the sea” in 1968.
That year he was leading a Soviet nuclear submarine on a secret mission under the sea, and as they were diving 260 meters below the surface, suddenly the sonar operator noticed that not far ahead, six unidentified objects were moving toward them at 426 kilometers per hour. Since the fastest submarine at that time was only 65 kilometers per hour, this speed of nearly six times more immediately attracted the attention of the Soviet Union.
Chernavin, who was the captain of the ship, activated the fight mode, at which point all engines stopped instantly. All personnel on board held their breath for fear that they would give away the submarine’s position. But after the submarine entered silent mode, the sonar operator found that the six unidentified objects were also stationary. And when the submarine continued to move forward, the unidentified objects would also continue to move forward.
Chernavin ordered the entire ship to ascend as fast as possible. However, he never expected that just after the submarine emerged from the water, the six unidentified objects would follow and “surface vertically” and fly away at a very fast speed.
Since Chernavin was of high rank in the Soviet Union, and even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, he continued to serve as the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian State Navy, many people were shocked when he came forward to confirm the “strange” encounter at sea. But what was even more shocking was that not long after the release of the declassified file, another underwater incident was reported in Russia. This time, they did not see the USO, but the “creature” inside the USO.
Lake Baikal
Formed about 35 million years ago, Lake Baikal, located in Siberia, Russia, is the largest and deepest freshwater lake in the world. According to declassified files of the Soviet Union, this ancient lake may be alive with creatures we don’t know about.
It all started in 1982. That year, the Soviet military brought a team to Lake Baikal for diving training, but strangely enough, just as they were diving about 50 meters underwater, they suddenly came across six large creatures. The point is that apart from the helmet, the creatures were not wearing any diving equipment at all. Could this be some new technology invented by other countries?
The leader of the group decided to capture one alive, so he gestured and gave instructions, but before the team members could act, suddenly a wave of energy similar to sonar waves came out from the direction of the unknown creatures and pushed the seven divers to the surface. Because this energy was too powerful, coupled with the process of surfacing too fast, three of the seven divers went into a state of shock, and the rest of the team fell into a coma. In the end, three members died.
The Soviet Union’s most famous scientist, Vladimir Azhazha, was dispatched to investigate the incident, but the declassified files did not mention the results of the investigation. Although the results were not published, it was enough to arouse curiosity about the possible existence of intelligent life beneath the deep sea, and the only question was whether these undersea creatures could be the Nommo described by the aborigines of West Africa. However, as speculation continued about what underwater secrets the Soviet Union had discovered back then, Discovery suddenly reported a mermaid sighting as a feature story.
Are mermaids aliens?
On the evening of October 19, 2019, a group of villagers in the Eastern Cape of South Africa were roasting meat around a fire next to the ocean. Suddenly, there were a large number of splashes from the sea in front of them. At first, they thought that someone had fallen into the water, but when everyone rushed to the shore, they saw a strange creature. An eyewitness recalled: “The top part is lady, and then the other half is fish.”
The woman told Discovery that there have been many similar sightings in the area. She showed the camera crew to the nearby desert to see a specific mural that dated back 50,000 years. It describes how humans fished and hunted in ancient times. But the strange thing is that the hunters on the mural have fish tails instead of feet.
Coincidentally, there have been continued mermaid sightings in the waters of the Solomon Islands in recent years. Since ancient times, the locals believed that there is a kind of underwater semi-mermaid creature named Adaro which is quite malevolent towards humans. When the Adaro are underwater, their skin glows blue, which is consistent with the sighting of underwater creatures with “blue skin” documented in the declassified Soviet archives. It is worth noting that in the Solomons, not only have there been mermaid sightings, there are even people who keep seeing USOs. Is there a connection between the two?
Mermaid baby
In 1990, the Taiwan News published an article that a Soviet research vessel had accidentally caught a strange creature while on a nuclear bomb salvage mission in Cuba. The Soviet scientist Winogradsky told the press that at first, they all thought they had just caught an unusual creature, but it didn’t take long for everyone to realize that the creature looked very much like a human. It had a human-like head, torso, and even limbs. In fact, except for the “scales” and the “crown of bones” on the head, he was almost identical to a normal human being, so the captain ordered the creature to be given water and immediately departed for the Soviet Union.
Since the creature appeared to be in the “infant stage,” most people called him the “baby mermaid.” It is said that the baby mermaid was later taken to a secret base in the Soviet Union and, through the efforts of researchers, they managed to establish a method of communication with him. In fact, Winogradsky was the person responsible for communicating with the mermaid. According to him, the baby mermaid told him that they were descendants of Atlantis. When Atlantis was destroyed and sank into the sea, there were a few who were able to adapt to life under the sea with “technological” help.
As time went by, they evolved scales and gills for breathing. Apparently, now there are about 3 million people living under the sea. Much of this news is unverified, but as the Soviet Union collapsed a year later, much of the information from this baby mermaid capture has disappeared with it. It is worth noting that, in the process of checking the information, we came across the fact that the United States has actually invented a kind of “gills” that allow humans to stay under the sea for a long time. Could this be similar to the “technology” used to adapt to life underwater, as the baby mermaid had mentioned?
Underwater technology
In 2008, a retired heart and lung surgeon Arnold Lande from Minnesota claimed to have invented a revolutionary underwater breathing apparatus that allows a diver to breathe via a re-oxygenated liquid circulated through the lungs.
According to Dr. Lande, traditional diving equipment using an oxygen tank is not only bulky, but can only supply an hour of underwater breathing time. However, his scuba suit would allow divers to inhale highly-oxygenated perfluorocarbons (PFCs) — a type of liquid that can dissolve enormous quantities of gas. The liquid would be contained in an enclosed helmet that would replace all the air in the lungs, nose, and ear cavities. The CO2 that would normally exit our body when we breathe out would be “scrubbed” from our blood by attaching a mechanical gill to the femoral vein in the leg.
This leads to what the baby mermaid said about people from Atlantis living underwater with the help of technology. The Soviet divers in Lake Baikal also bumped into creatures suspected of wearing special equipment. Although we can’t be sure of the answers to these questions yet, what we can be sure of is that, with the help of artificial gills, we will soon be able to investigate more unexplored water depths and make new discoveries. The only question is, what will these new discoveries be?
