If you are actually afraid of heights, but can’t say no to Ferris wheel rides, or you’re just a big fan of Ferris wheels, then hold your socks, because the following examples of the world’s highest Ferris wheels in East China’s Shandong Province, Las Vegas, and Dubai will surely amaze you.

A Ferris wheel without a center shaft

The Chinese Ferris wheel in Weichang has been praised by Chinese online media as the world’s largest hollow Ferris wheel, reaching 476 feet (145 m) into the sky. It truly is a marvelous sight to see.

What makes it unique is the fact that it lacks a construction element most Ferris wheels carry in common — a center shaft. The Eye of the Bohai Sea, as the giant hollow wheel structure is officially called, was opened to the public on May 16, 2018 in China’s Shandong Province.

The wheel overlooks the spot where the Bailang river flows into the Bohai Sea, giving visitors a bird’s eye view of the surrounding scenery composed of cityscapes melting into the natural scenery beyond. While the world’s largest hollow Ferris wheel is something unique, it is not the largest Ferris wheel in the world. Which one is the world’s largest?

Counting as one of the world’s highest Ferris wheels is the London Eye in the U.K. At 443 feet (135 m), it even stands among the 20 tallest structures of London.

But the amusement wheel that puts all of the above under a long cast shadow, in terms of height, is the Dubai Eye, a 689 foot (210 m) high Ferris wheel planned to overlook Jumeirah Beach Residence, a Bluewaters Island development project in Dubai.
